BAYAWAN’S CHARMS: YOUR EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME

Thrilled by the challenge of being the host of this year’s Central Visayas Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Sports Meet, Bayawan City’s preparations had since been in full swing through the synergy and efforts of all its agencies and departments. Following its declaration of CVIRAA 2025 hosting during the turn-over ceremony in Cebu City last May 2024, Bayawan City accepted the symbolic CVIRAA flag embracing the notion that this most anticipated CVIRAA meet will surely be an avenue to bring together thousands of delegates and tourists from the entire Central Visayas and neighboring places to attend and witness this momentous event for the year 2025.

With all these in place, Bayawan City continues to take on its full blast and meticulous preparations to offer delegates and spectators high quality services and accommodations and an experience they would never forget.

As Bayawan sparks for excellence, the city also highlights its natural and historical charms and offers a wide array of activities and landscapes that could capture the hearts of many tourists and visitors as they come to experience Bayawan.


EXPERIENCE SCENERIES


Bayawan City Boulevard.They say that having long walks is one way to relieve stress. Strategically located in the coastal roads of Brgy. Villareal down to Brgy. Ubos, the 6-kilometer boulevard is your ticket to watching on of the most beautiful sunsets in the country. Aside from the wonderful view, the boulevard is also the place to take long walks and runs. Bonding moments will become more precious as you dine with your family in the vast selection of foods in the bazaar and the sumptuous meals you can enjoy in the Hayayay Square where different stalls of the flavors of Bayawan city are displayed.

Bayawan Nature Reserve. nature reserveCommonly known as the Noah’s Arc of Bayawan City. Bayawan Nature Reserve houses animals that need preservation. This 100-hectare land is home to dozens of endangered species found in Negros Oriental. Danapa houses the Visayan Warty Pig, Visayan Spotted Dear, Blue Naped Parrots, Negros Bleeding Heart Doves and the Visayan Tarictic Hornbill. The city works hard to preserve mother nature. In fact, a good number of foreign volunteers have offered their time to contribute to helping preserve the endangered animals that play great roles in the circle of life.

Sanitary Landfill. 12 kilometers away from Bayawan City proper, one of the best integrated waste management facilities can be found in Barangay Mininihon, Sitio Omod. The world class sanitary landfill is an asset to Bayawan City. With its odorless features, the biodegradable wastes undergo composting processes to produce organic fertilizer. One cell of the sanitary landfill which is equivalent to 10,000 SQM or 1 hectare can accommodate 20-25 years of residual waste. The project was implemented through the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2002 that costed 30 million pesos which was launched in 21.4 hectares last April 10, 2010. Up to this day, Bayawanons remain disciplined when it comes to solid waste management because at the end of the day, Bayawan City is a wonderful home to live in.

EXPERIENCE INNOVATIONS


BCDRMMOC.Bayawan installed a total of 177 State-of-The-Art CCTVS in different strategic areas in the locality that can zoom 1 kilometer away with a night vision. Since safety is one of the city’s first priorities, Bayawan City also installed a state-of-the-art Local Flood Early Warning System that tracks current weather conditions in the different locations of the city. The automatic weather stations and automatic water level sensors, early warnings are provided to the public making Bayawanons safe and updated of the current events.

EXPERIENCE NATURE


Niludhan Falls. niludhan fallsA refreshing view of nature’s beauty can be experienced in the infamous Niludhan Falls located at Brgy. Dawis, Bayawan City. The breathtaking wonder with its cold falling water represents the flowing energy of Bayawanons who continuously strive to survive the daily walks of life. the nearly 40-meter falls has a pool of water beneath which acts as a huge pool to swim.

Beatriz Falls.Another stunning place to relax is Beatiz Falls. This mini waterfall is located at Barangay Narra, Byawan City. With its ice-cold water flowing freely, your stress will surely be carried away.

Habhaban Cave and Underground Waterfalls. This unique natural landmark situated a few kilometres away from Brgy. Malabugas provides an adventurous uphill hike and a risky crawling exercise going inside the cave. But with the combination of both the cave system and the waterfalls, this place offers a diverse natural attraction that could become the next item on the bucket lists of the many adventurous souls.

Mango & Hass Avocado Plantation Farm. You are truly on a sweet treat as we take you on to the next destination. The Mango and Hass Avocado Farm located at Brgy. Kalumboyan will give you the sweetest adventure as you experience the taste of fresh mangoes and avocadoes freshly harvested in a relaxing farm.

EXPERIENCE CULTURE


Tawo-Tawo Festival.Your experience in Bayawan city would be incomplete if you’re not able to witness the Tawo-tawo Festival. The annual festival celebrated during the city fiesta every February is a celebration of life’s harvest of the Bayawanons. It presents the story of how Bayawan got its name and how the people survived the coming of the Spaniards. It also tells a story of adapting to changes throughout the years. The colorful costumes worn by the dancers dancing to the beat of the drums is an epitome of the good harvest celebration of farmers. The story also includes the use of scarecrows to drive the maya birds away from the fields. This enchanting festival is participated by the different barangays of Bayawan City in partnership with the Department of Education.

EXPERIENCE DELICACIES


Baye-Baye. baye-bayeThis sweet delicacy primarily made from toasted glutinous rice or ground corn mixed with grated young coconut is a must try in Bayawan City. For over many decades, this has been the delicacy that is always associated with Bayawan City as it is prepared during special occasions and holds cultural significance and represents a part of the city’s local heritage.

Chicken Inasal.Though not originating in Bayawan City, this type food is one of the most popular cuisines in the city which is sometimes served by restaurants and food stalls with unlimited rice, making it a most sought after delicacy in the city.

Skewed Meat and Sea Foods.As Bayawan City is known for its longest boulevard, history has it that food stalls serving grilled skewed pork and sea foods is the trend. In todays’ time, these types of foods are still trends since it offers a variety of food choices and can be enjoyed with rice and soft drinks in a combo meal.

“Puso”.This delicacy which is common throughout the Visayas is also enjoyed and patronized in Bayawan City. This delicacy is essentially rice cooked inside woven pouches made from coconut leaves that are seemingly heart-shaped, thus the term “puso”. The method of cooking “puso” creates a compact and portable rice cake that is staple in Visayan cuisines that often served as accompaniment of grilled meats and other dishes.
